Miss America Kicks Off Reign in Style

Miss America 2012, Laura Kaeppeler, was crowned last weekend amidst all the pomp and circumstance winning the title usually carries. But while she was smiling for the camera, Canadian design house Joseph Ribkoff was behind the scenes, mapping out the 23-year-old Wisconsin native’s wardrobe for the next 365 days. Joseph Ribkoff has signed on to be Ms. Kaeppeler’s official designer for the duration of her reign.

This week, representatives from Joseph Ribkoff offered a peek at what Ms. Kaeppeler will be wearing this year.

“For spring 2012,” says Erica Andersen of Ann Magnin, Inc., the firm who handles publicity for Joseph Ribkoff, “The dress reigns supreme. Key Joseph Ribkoff pieces that Kaeppeler will be wearing include one-shoulder silhouettes, bold floral and animal prints, color-blocked dresses, striped and polka dot monochromatic pieces, shirt dresses and retro-inspired sheaths.”

Because Knaeppeler’s travel schedule will be so intense, with stops across the globe, including at least one to the White House, the designer has tried to keep the focus on pieces that are as comfortable as they are beautiful, and can move easily from professional to casual.

For the rest of us, this translates into trends for spring that are casually elegant and totally wearable. Look for flowy, feminine tunics to dominate this spring. Pair them with fitted trousers and leggings. And don’t be afraid to add a splash of bold color or an exotic print.

Follow Miss America’s style trends for 2012, and you’ll likely have people singing, “Here she comes…” whenever you walk into the room.

Just leave crown-wearing to the professional.
