Minette and Rook Takes Flight

If New York boutique chic is what you crave, the newly opened Minette and Rook is exactly the shop for you. Owner Lauren Robak has made sure of it. The racks are stocked with hard-to-find designers like Gypsy 05 and Aoyama Itchome.

"We're one of the only retailers outside of New York City to carry Aoyama's line," says Lauren. "I want to bring a slightly edgier style, and Fairfield is the perfect place. It has a town mentality with a city population."

Lauren should know. She's lived in Fairfield since she was 12-years-old. After graduating from New York's acclaimed Fashion Institute of Technology, she made her way back to Fairfield. Three years ago, she opened her first store, Une Minette, in Wilton. "Minette and Rook is a departure from the other store. Some of the designers are the same, but the feel is different, more urban."

In addition to new designers, she's added a menswear collection. "It's all easy, weekend wear," she says. "It's all stuff guys will actually wear that's different from what you'd find at the larger chain retailers. And the wives like it. I started carrying men's clothing because of my husband. I can find cool stuff that he'll actually wear."

When this accomplished 29-year-old isn't busy bringing the hottest designers you've never heard of to Fairfield County, she likes to hang out here, too. "Molto is awesome," Lauren says of Fairfield's current hot spot. "And Gray Goose in Southport has the best Lobster BLT around."

Don't miss Minette and Rook's grand opening event on Sept. 11. "We're bringing in an old school photo booth. And Gray Goose is catering." Fingers crossed they'll bring some Lobster BLTs.

Minette and Rook is perched in the promenade section of the Brick Walk, on the Post Road in Fairfield.
