The list comes from the Social Security Administration, which released the list of top names state-by-state for 2012 on Thursday on its website.
In Connecticut, the top names were Mason, with 230 boys with that name, and Emma, with 246 girls with that name.
The top five boys names for 2012 in Connecticut were:

- Michael (207)
- Liam (203)
- Ethan (191)
The most popular girls names for 2012 in Connecticut were:
- Emma (246)
- Olivia (234)
- Isabella (232)
- Sophia (226)
- Ava (184)
In 2011, the most popular boys name in Connecticut was Alexander and Sophia led the list of girls names.
Sophia and Jacob were the most popular baby names in the U.S., the Social Security Administration announced last week.
In addition to each state’s top baby names, Social Security’s website has a list of the 1,000 most popular boys’ and girls’ names for 2012 and offers lists of baby names for each year since 1880.
