One of my favorite winter dinner party dishes is a cinch to make, especially because its your guests who will do the cooking. Steak fondue is the ultimate crowd pleaser. Im not talking James Bond-style Swiss chalets and seventies cheese fondue cheesiness. Theres nothing ooey or gooey about this dish. Its as easy as it is delicious. Heres what youll need:
A metal fondue pot (ceramic is for cheese or chocolate only) and all the accoutrements
Sterno
Steak, cubed (I prefer filet mignon)
24 oz oil (vegetable oil works just fine)
½ stick butter (optional)
Heat oil on stove (combined with butter if youre using) until very hot. Pour hot oil into fondue pot and light Sterno. Use fondue forks to cook the steak in the pot as desired. Serve with various sauces. such as: béarnaise, mustard, barbecue, dill or whatever other sauces you enjoy. Homemade sauces are always delicious, but if youre looking for minimal prep, buy premade sauces from your favorite gourmet shop. Green salad, baguette and crispy potatoes accompany this dish beautifully.
Bon appétit!
