Make River House a Home for Thanksgiving

How does a gourmet Thanksgiving family-style feast sound? Pretty good, to be sure. It's even better when you know you don’t have to help with the dishes. This year, River House in Westport is hosting a prix fixe holiday meal in their homey dining room on the Saugatuck River.

“We wanted to keep it family-style,” says Executive Chef Raul Restrepo. “The appetizers and sides will be served to share, and guests can choose their entrées.” Chef Restrepo has an impressive résumé, having heated up kitchens from New York City to Palm Beach, including Cipriani. At River House, your holiday meal is in the very best hands.

What does he have in store? All natural roast turkey makes the menu, of course, and it’s paired with chorizo and pistachio whole wheat stuffing. That stuffing alone is enough to write home about. Other standouts are the red snapper livournais, with Kalmata olives, capers, tomatoes and onions, and the homemade whole wheat fettuccini with mushroom ragout.

“We make all our own pasta and bread,” says Chef Restrepo. “We grind our own meat. I like making as much as we can in house. It’s just better.”

He winds things up right with a selection of sweet treats to end the meal. The pumpkin crème brulée will have you giving thanks repeatedly. Crispy crust holds the smoothest, frothiest, not-too-sweet pumpkin cream inside. It may just be the best thing that ever happened to pumpkin.

“That’s all Alex,” says Chef Restrepo, giving credit where it’s due. Sous chef Alex Huillca is the genius behind the desserts at River House. Apart from the perfect pumpkin crème brulée, he’ll tempt you with a honeycrisp apple strudel and a flourless macadamia chocolate torte. But trust me when I tell you it’s all about the pumpkin.

River House is offering all this deliciousness for $36.00 per person, tax and gratuity not included. Kids 12 and under eat for $19.00. Make your reservation for the best Thanksgiving dinner you won’t have to cook by calling 203-226-5532.
