Lose the Brush and Spray It

If the railing on your front porch could do with a fresh coat of paint, here’s a quick and easy way to get that job checked off the list. “Spray it,” says Sal Migliorelli who manages the paint department at the new Ring’s End Paint & Design Center across from Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk.

Paint in spray cans is nothing new, but now you can have any paint at all put into a spray can, including that special custom color you used on your railing. “We can put any paint into the Seymour cans – latex or oil,” Sal says. “One quart of paint will fill about ten spray cans.” And that should be enough to spray your outdoor furniture to match your shutters, which is what one of Sal’s customers chose to do.

“I have painters come in who ask for a Benjamin Moore trim paint in spray cans. They like to spray the snap-in muntins that go on the windows. It takes them a lot less time than brushing,” Sal adds.

Seymour has been selling paint in spray cans since 1949 when the founder of the company, Ed Seymour, devised a spray system to demonstrate how a new paint he had created would look on radiators. People were more interested in the spray system than the paint so Ed borrowed money and started a whole new business – paint in spray cans.

Custom spray cans run around $10 each plus the price of the paint. It's definitely pricier than just using a brush but you’ll get the job done so much faster.
