Nothing says springtime like a prom fashion show, and last weekend thats exactly what happened at Saks Fifth Avenue in the Stamford Town Center. The models, all local high school students, worked the runway like pros wearing prom and after prom looks by some of springs most coveted labels like BCBG, Laundry, ABS, James Perse and Gypsy 05.
Allie, a poised and charming eighth-grader at Greenwich Academy, wore a floor-scraping, ethereal strapless dress in powder blue, then changed into a playful, almost electric green cocktail dress by Cut25 for her after prom look. Id love to work as a journalist one day, Allie told me. Her future area of journalistic expertise? Fashion.
Madeline Miceli, a sophomore at New Rochelle High School, first emerged looking like Natalie Portman in a one-shoulder, gardenia white dress by BCBG. She looked so comfortable on the runway, I assumed shed modeled previously. No, not really, she told me. I mean, I did a show at the Saks in Greenwich. So how is it that she looks so practiced and graceful on the catwalk? I do ballet. That probably helps.
Jeremy Newton, a senior at Stamfords Westhill High School and the one very lucky young man -- asked to model alongside the 26 lovely young women -- also has his mind set on a career in fashion. I love good style. Fashion and design are definitely things I would like to pursue in the future.
Weve done a prom fashion show three years in a row now, Paulette Pitt, a spokesperson for the event told me. Our partner this year is Scholarship America. From now through April 10, people can purchase a prom dress for 15 percent off, and Saks will donate 5 percent of that purchase to Scholarship America. According to their Website, Scholarship America is an organization originally developed to mobilize America through scholarships and educational support, making postsecondary education possible for all students.
