Local Chef: Jeff Marron's Bourbon Manhattan

Jeff Marron is co-owner of Saugatuck Grain & Grape, a Westport wine and spirits shop across from the train station. And while he loves a good glass of grape, he’s passionate about his grain, bourbon in particular.

Recently he shared his expertise with eager tasters at the store’s Big, Bad Bourbon event. Most walked away with a new knowledge of the corn-based American spirit. He also offered up his preferred recipe for a classic cocktail, the Manhattan.

Jeff’s Bourbon Manhattan Recipe:

2 oz. Johnny Drum 101 Bourbon

1 oz. Carpano Antica Formula Vermouth

2 dashes The Bitter Truth Orange Bitters

Combine ingredients into a shaker. Add two or three ice cubes. Pour into rocks glass and then back into shaker a few times. Serve in rocks glass with a twist of orange peel.

Marron notes: “Cocktails that are served ‘up,’ in a martini glass, are to be shaken. Cocktails that are served on the rocks are to be ‘rolled,’ or poured from the shaker into the glass and then back into the shaker.”

Cheers to a holiday cocktail that will stir your guests into the spirit of the season.
