Life Coach Counsels Ladies Who Launch

Trying to "do it all" can do you in, says Rebecca Hendrix, leader of “Ladies Who Launch,” a group of women entrepreneurs in Westport.

“So many of us are ‘busyholics,’” says the Fairfield psychotherapist and life coach. “Women especially are nurturers by nature, so we become like spinning tops, trying to get everything done for everyone else and forgetting to take care of ourselves.”

As a former public relations and marketing bigwig (her clients included Tiffany & Co), Rebecca has "been there." That’s why she wants to help other women learn to strike a balance between life and work. Not that it’s an easy goal to reach. “There’s never going to be a time when your life is perfectly in balance,” she says.“But every decision you make takes you either towards balance or away from it.”

She uses herself as an example:

“Like tonight, I had to make the choice between accepting a last minute dinner invitation or going home to take a bath after a long day of seeing clients in the city…I picked the bath.”

Whether it’s a bath, a jog, or just five minutes to yourself, Rebecca encourages overextended women (and men) to do at least one nice thing for themselves each day.

“Self-care is very important,” she says.

Also key: Quieting all the noise in your head so you can listen to your gut, especially when you’re trying to make big personal or professional changes.

“Think of your intuition as a flute,” she says. “If you’ve got a big brass band playing in your mind all the time, you’re not going to be able to hear the flute.”

And you'll probably end up with quite a headache.
