Let's Wrap the World in Mosaics!

Lisa Ballaro has an absolute passion for tiles and designing stunningly creative tile solutions for her customers’ homes.  Owner for the past 8 years of Port America, in Westport, Lisa carries a wide selection of tiles, from the upscale Porcellanosa line to white subway tiles in a range of sizes.

Ask Lisa about her favorite tiles and she doesn’t even hesitate.  “Mosaics!!  I would wrap the world in mosaics.  They make me feel good.  I love the texture they provide to walls, the infinite patterns and the endless design possibilities,” she says.  Mosaics are tiny squares of marble and stone in varying colors and designs.  They come mounted on sheets for easy installation.  The ancient Greeks and Romans used mosaic tiles in their temples and homes, and the trend continues today.  Modern mosaics are often geometric combinations of marble and glass, which gives a more contemporary look.

An interesting trend Lisa is seeing is at the moment is tile installation in basements.  The spate of storms over the past few months has raised the water table considerably, and homeowners are tired of wrestling with wet basements and sump pumps.  Many people are ripping out the carpet and turning to practical porcelain tiles.  If the basement floods again, a tile floor allows for much easier clean up and, more importantly, does not harbor mold spores which can be a major health hazard for people with respiratory problems.

If you’re planning on revamping a tired bathroom, updating your kitchen backsplash or creating a “wow factor” wall in your powder room, go see Lisa Ballaro.  She’ll help you come up with exactly what you knew you always wanted. Port America is at 425 Post Road East, Westport, across from Trader Joe’s.
