Kid Kart Racer Zooms Down Fast Lane

Some kids go to summer camp and others laze around the house, but 12 year-old kart-racer Tazio Torregiani was putting pedal to the metal and burning up the tracks during his summer vacation.

In early August Tazio returned to Oakland Valley Race Park in upstate NY -- where he began racing in a kid kart when he was six -- in the Divisional New Jersey Sprint Series.

The young Stamford resident finished on the podium in nearly all the final races over the weekend, taking one third place, three second places and one win in a Junior Sportsman class. Here, he made his move from third to first place with only one turn left on the track.

The highlight of Tazio's summer was in Sept., when he entered his first race in the junior class division, driving a bigger and faster kart. National Champion Mike Doty gave Tazio an opportunity to drive in a Haase Junior chassis, and Tazio scored second place against other junior drivers.

Clearly there will be no stopping him -- once he gets his driver's license.
