Kick Turkey Calories for A Cause

The words "fitness" and "Thanksgiving" in the same sentence might seem oxymoronic, but the folks at Punch Kettlebell Gym in Norwalk are bringing them together for a good cause. In fact, Punch Kettlebell is offering "turkey-busting" workouts for free during Thanksgiving week, as a way to help those less fortunate.

"Participants just need to bring a can of food and they can workout for free from November 25 through the 27," says Punch Kettlebell co-owner Stefanie Tropea. Stefanie refers to the workouts as "turkey-busting" because, she says, "They burn off those monstrous calories we all consume on Thanksgiving."

Punch Kettlebell Gym opened in Norwalk two years ago. Stefanie and co-owner Katherine (Kat) Bellantoni are intent on giving back to the community where, since it's opened, it's flourished. All cans collected will be donated to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. "We're planning on making this an annual tradition," Stefanie says. "Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday, and a perfect time to show our appreciation for all we have, especially our health."

Punch Kettlebell will be open to all local residents and their family and friends for the "turkey-buster" on the following dates during the holiday week: Thursday, November 25 at 7:00, 8:00 and 11:00 a.m.; Friday, November 26 at 7:00, 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., and Saturday, November 27 at 7:00, 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. Admission is simply one can of food (preferably vegetables).

Stefanie's only requirement to participants is that they register in advance in order for the trainers and facility to accommodate as many enthusiasts as possible. She adds, "Boot camp is perfect for all folks regardless of age or fitness level. We make everyone feel welcome and customize the workouts so everybody gets what they need."

"We anticipate a great turnout because folks enjoy working out with family, friends and friendly people, and because we're supporting a great cause," says Stefanie. Both she and co-owner Kat are Stamford residents.
