How Green is Your Bamboo?

Chris Mahoney is the name you need to have on the tip of your tongue whenever the word “floor” pops into mind.  And that would be any sort of floor – carpeted, tiled, wood and even vinyl.

Whether you’re thinking of installing new flooring or fixing what you’ve got, Chris is the go-to guy.  “Hardwood flooring can show wear over time so my customers want to know how to revitalize their floors without sanding them right down to the bare wood,” he says.  The solution is simple --  it’s called buffing.  Chris’s guys come into your house, move all the furniture out of the room, give it a light sanding, wax the surface and, voila!  An instant floor make-over.

Chris installs a lot of wood flooring, including bamboo.  “There are a lot of cheap bamboos out there but I only use products from Teragren.  They are a very environmentally conscious company and they control the quality of the bamboo,” he explains.  Teragren belongs to the Forest Stewardship Council, which has stringent standards for wood products.  They use a harder variety called Moso which matures in five to six years.  The bamboo is grown overseas and then finished in the United States.

Chris’s showroom on the Wilton/Norwalk line carries a large range of carpet and area rugs as well as a good selection of tile for floors, bathrooms and kitchens.
