Have a Safe Trip When Traveling with Pets

Your pet is part of your family, so it's a four paw conclusion that he comes along on vacation with you at some point. Here are some tips from the ASPCA to help keep your family and Fido safe, happy and (relatively) stress-free in the car en route to your destination:

~ Before leaving home, check that ID tags are safely affixed to your pet's collar, and make sure all tags -- vaccinations and addresses -- are up-to-date.

~ Do not let your dog ride in the front seat: Sudden stops, airbags and driver distraction are dangerous to pets and human passengers alike.

~ Restrain pets with a doggie seat belt, as this will ensure your pet won't compromise the driver's vision and will keep the pet safe in the event of an accident. Amazon sells many varieties of pet safety belts, such as the Pet Buckle.

~ Avoid letting dogs lunge out the window, particularly when you're traveling at high speeds, as this can lead to eye and other injuries.
