Happy Mother's Day: How Will You Spend the Day?

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- For some, Mother's Day is a time for brunch, flowers and special gifts. In Fairfield, you can run a 5k race.

How will you celebrate Mother's Day?

A road race may not be every woman's first choice of how to spend that special day, but the race benefits a cause that any mother can love: The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of children with special needs and their families. The foundation helps finance the purchase of medical equipment and services when insurance is exhausted and other social programs are not available. In addition to financial support, it helps families navigate the medical and social communities to find the products and services that will specifically meet their needs.

The race will be Sunday, May 12, starting at 8:30 a.m., with a kids' 1-mile race at 8 a.m. The race begins at Yanity Gym, at 90 Prospect St., and ends at Ballard Park on Main Street. The start and finish lines are about a quarter-mile apart.

It will feel like Mother's Day -- all finishers will get a rose and refreshments will be served at the finish line.

Run Like A Mother was founded in 2008 by Ridgefield resident, mom, runner and Ironman triathlete Megan Searfoss. She launched the inaugural Run Like A Mother 5K to celebrate and empower women on Mother’s Day in 2008.
