Gov't Agency Issues Zombie Preparedness Tips

Flashlight? Check. Canned food? Check. Bottled water? Check. You're now ready for a natural disaster. Or for a zombie invasion, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

A blog post, deliciously and gruesomely titled, "Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse," was only half kidding. The kidding part was all about the zombies, but Assistant Surgeon General Ali Khan was serious about being prepared for emergency situations. "There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for," he says. "Take a zombie apocalypse for example." Take, what?

Believe it or not, the same steps you might take to prepare for a class-four hurricane or an Ebola pandemic are similar to those suggested in advance of an encroaching mob of flesh-eating non-dead monsters. "First of all, you should have an emergency kit in your house," says Khan. "This includes things like water, food, and other supplies to get you through the first couple of days before you can locate a zombie-free refugee camp (or in the event of a natural disaster, it will buy you some time until you are able to make your way to an evacuation shelter or utility lines are restored)."

Now that you know what to do in the event of a zombie attack, don't forget to wear sunscreen and bug repellant before taking a hike in the woods. You never know what kind of terror can unfold on such an excursion.
