Go Green and Make Your Own Gift Tags

Wait. Don't toss all those holiday greeting cards just yet. Here’s a great recycling project that will keep the kids occupied next time there's a snow day. It's called "Project Green Gift Tags."

Here's what you'll need. A pair of scissors, a single hole punch, some ribbon or wool, plus the stack of holiday cards.

Sift through the cards and toss all the cards with photographs. You'll cut off the signatures and any writing.

Now we get to the creative part. Cut the cards into roughly 2-by-2 inch squares and try to get a picture on each gift tag. You can cut around that cute snowman and make a free-form gift tag. Menorahs, Christmas trees, mangers -- they’ll all look wonderful on your gifts next year.

Punch a hole in a corner of each tag and thread a six inch piece of ribbon through the hole. Tie the ends together. That's all there is to it. Easy, right? Stash your new gift tags in a baggie and store them with any leftover gift wrap. You’ll never need to buy gift tags again!

Do you send out holiday cards? What do you do with all the cards you receive? I'd love to know. Leave a comment below or email me at fpearson@mainstreetconnect.us
