Are you looking for a quick and easy way to spruce up your home for the holidays? Do you want to avoid dragging out those boxes of dusty plastic turkeys and cornucopias? Heres an idea that will have your home looking bright, sparkly and up-to-date. Get out the paint rollers and the drop cloths and give your walls a quick and easy makeover.
Benjamin Moore Paints have just come out with the new color trend forecasts so heres your chance to get a jump on your neighbors by painting a few walls in the go-to colors of the moment. Whats new and exciting in the world of color? For starters, weve got some warm purples and plums starting to creep back into the color palette, and they look fantastic paired with the grays and taupes that have dominated our color landscape as weve hunkered down in our recession. Plum (try Ben Moore's aplomb) or purple (inspired is a good one) are great color choices for a dining room. Both are in the red family (and its a well-known fact that red stimulates conversation and appetites). If you cant bring yourself to paint a whole room purple, look for some funky purple pillow covers. A luscious plum throw would look dynamite over the back of an armchair.
The Green movement is everywhere, and there is a profusion of gorgeous colors from nature that are perfect in the moment, and just right for your home. Think of the Earth -- warm terracotta (moroccan spice, for example) set off with pale turquoise (refined would work well), deep rich bark browns (barrista - yummy) and sparkly bronze accents. Intense colors can make the smallest room in the house everyone's favorite place to be, so get creative and try something new.
Are you ready for something edgy? Indigo and pewter paired with misty grayish purple and mauve will take your home into the future. The contrast of darks and lights, in soft and muted tones, is always chic. Here is a tip for your home office: Paint the walls a deep mysterious indigo (look at hale navy and deep royal), add pale lavender blinds. It will look fantastic with a cool white trim (like winter snow). Throw in some silver accents such as picture frames or wild sequined pillows.
