Get Out Your Trowel and Go to Class

Local nurseries have stocked up on flower and vegetable seedlings, and it's time to get out your shovels and trowels. If you're a new gardener or a veteran looking for new ideas, check our calendar for free gardening classes in Fairfield County.

April 22 or 23, Greenwich. 10 a.m. Free class on perennials for sun and/or shade at Sam Bridge Nursery, 437 North Street. Reserve a place at (203) 869-3418.

April 29 or 30, Greenwich. 10 a.m. Free class on plants for shady gardens Sam Bridge Nursery, 437 North Street. Reserve at (203) 869-3418.

April 30, Norwalk. 11 a.m. Free soil workshop in the pavilion at Fodor Farm at 328 Flax Hill Road. Edward Henrey, co-owner of Kinglet Gardens Ecological Horticulture in Cos Cob and a Northeast Organic Farming Association-accredited organic land care professional will talk about testing and improving soil.

April 30, Norwalk. 9 to 10 a.m. at Stew Leonard’s Garden Center. Free workshop on vegetables and herbs.

May 7, Greenwich. 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Garden Education Center in Cos Cob has it's 50th May Gardeners Market Saturday. (203) 869-9242.
