Where can you find a place where youll get a great haircut, full skincare solutions and treatments, and a killer ensemble right down to the shoes and accessories all under one roof? In your dreams, maybe? Well hold onto your eye pillows, ladies, and let me introduce you to Jessica Ryan and Maria Casabianca, proprietors of the Jessica Ryan Salon and Soma boutique. This cozy, combined storefront across from the Westport train station is a fashion and beauty emporium offering the one stop convenience of a department store with the detailed attention of a personal stylist.
Youve never seen anything like it.
Jessica wanted to create a service for her clients, says Maria. Women dont have a lot of time. Here, you dont have to just sit there with the foils in your hair. Maybe you have an event youre getting ready for, so while youre having your hair done, you can find an outfit or that fabulous accessory you were missing. I mean, when those foils are in your hair, its just wasted time. Why not shop?
The wisdom of this business model is hard to dispute, and these women are cutting edge entrepreneurs. Jessica has been styling hair for 15 years, and Maria, a graduate of FIT, has spent her career in the fashion industry. They became acquainted through their children, who went to kindergarten together. Since then, a truly beautiful friendship has emerged.
I knew I needed more space for my business, says Jessica, amidst the bustle of her busy salon. We were in Florida together last winter, and I told Maria that I wanted to take over this larger space and we hatched this plan, she says, speaking to the salon/boutique model. I wanted to incorporate a third service, so I asked Linda to bring her skincare expertise to the business. Jessica is referring to Linda Martinez, who offers full skincare solutions in the Skin Lounge area of the salon. She does everything: eyebrow tinting and shaping, eyelash extensions, chemical peels, microdermabrasion. She works with a plastic surgeon and so her services and products are a step above what youd find elsewhere.
The niche business these women have created is gorgeous in both theory and practice. And no one else is doing it.
My concept was a mini-Bendels, says Jessica. Im working on incorporating a home décor piece, she says, alluding to the elegant chandeliers that light the space.
In the Soma boutique section, you can find designers like Cashmere 360, Chan Luu and Love Sam. Youll also find shoes fit for a 21st century Cinderella, all by Italian designer Rene Caovilla. From $40 cocktail rings to $400 cashmere wraps, Maria has handpicked her inventory with the eye of an expert. And theres a price point for everyone.
Ive tried to highlight designers you dont see in Westport, that you might have to go into the city to find, says Maria. And I also really tried to narrow it down to 10 or 12 designers, so it isnt overwhelming. The result is far from overwhelming. Every piece is elegant, unique and achingly wearable.
Whether youre in search of a new do, or something to wear to a holiday do on your calendar, the Jessica Ryan Salon and Soma boutique will offer you standout style you simply cant find elsewhere.
Were a neighborhood business, says Jessica. We really have something for everyone.
