Garlic Growing Made Easy

Hey, garlic-lovers, it’s that time of year! Time to plant and grow your own pungent garlic bulbs. Planting your own is as easy as growing a daffodil: stick the bulb in the ground right now, then sit back and watch it grow. All you have to do is water.

Here are some tips for the best results.

*  Buy organic garlic from your local farmer’s market – the seed companies are all sold out.

*  Find a sunny spot in your garden – garlic likes at least six hours of sun a day.

*  Turn the soil and add some compost, preferably from your own compost pile.

*  Break up the head of garlic into individual bulbs. There are usually five in each head.

*  Plant each bulb two inches down and six inches apart.

*  Cover with soil and mulch.

*  Water well – and walk away. That’s all there is to it.

If the weather stays warm you may notice some shoots poking up. No problem, the bulbs will put up new shoots again in the spring.
