Mark your calendars for Westport Historical Society's 18th Annual Hidden Garden Tour, coming up on Saturday June 14. Six outstanding gardens, selected by the garden tour committee, will be open to ticket holders. The identity of the gardens is kept secret - or hidden from the public - until the day of the tour. A bonus stop on the tour is a visit to Adams Academy, a historic one-room schoolhouse on Morningside Drive.
This years itinerary includes two seaside gardens, a park-like five-acre estate as well as the inspirational garden of a local artist. The garden tour is timed to coincide with peak flowering season for peonies and other early perennials. Advance tickets are $35 for Westport Historical Society members and $45 for non-members. And $50 will get you a ticket on the day of the tour. For $70 you get to ride a tour bus from one garden to the other.
Visitors can also shop at the Marketplace on Veteran's Green, across from the Westport Town Hall. Vendors will offer an eclectic range of wares, from gardening paraphernalia to soaps and jewelry.
