If youre stumped for something special to buy for the moms in your life, think flowers. Flowers have a magical ability to create happiness, according to a team of researchers at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Flowers can cheer you up, relieve anxiety and bring people together.
Jan Peterson of Stewart Flowers in Wilton says her biggest sellers for Mothers Day are garden toolboxes that she fills with spring flowers and annuals. They fly out of here, she says. As do the patio baskets and assorted unusual containers she collects all year. I have more than 100 different kinds of flowers in my store, she says. Jan and her staff combine them into flamboyant splashes of color, mixing annuals, bulbs and cut flowers.
Roses are another of Stewart Flowers specialty item. I buy from several different wholesalers who bring me Floribunda roses that you just dont see anywhere else, Jan says. The roses come in all colors and open into enormous picture postcard perfect blooms. Stewart's also sells a range of gardening tools, gloves, clippers
