First New Canaan Restaurant Week Fires Up

Listen up, Fairfield County foodies. The very first Restaurant Week in New Canaan kicks off next week. Aug. 26 through Sept. 3, some of the tastiest spots in town will offer special prix fixe menus in a weeklong event that supports the New Canaan Food Pantry, founded by St. Mark's church.

The mouthwatering list of restaurants includes Cava, Cherry Street East, Club Sandwich, Fifty Coins, Gates, Kouzina, The Pine Social, Plum Tree, Roger Sherman Inn, Solé, Thali and Tuscan. A preview event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 25, when diners can bring donations for the food pantry and enter to win some serious prizes, including two round-trip business-class tickets to South America or Europe from American Airlines.

Joe Rocco, owner of The Pine Social, told The Daily New Canaan's Melvin Mason that he expects the event will bring more diners to downtown New Canaan, which is not always at the top of people's lists when they consider where to eat out. It's "a little off the beaten path," said Rocco.

With an event like this, it's not likely to stay that way for long.

The New Canaan Food Pantry recommends the following donations: Coffee (regular drip, regular instant and decaf instant), honey, stews, paper products, laundry detergent, boxed cold cereal, canned poultry (chicken, turkey), instant drink mixes (iced tea, lemonade, etc.), dried fruits (apricots, raisins, prunes, cranraisins).
