Farmers Market Springs Up in Parking Lot

You can’t really miss the farmers’ markets that have sprung up this year in Fairfield County’s parking lots like a crop of mushrooms in the woods.  The white tent canopies are unmistakable, as are the vans and trucks piled high with boxes of fresh-picked produce.

The Stamford market is on Wednesdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the High Ridge Shopping Center, near Barnes & Noble and close to the entrance to the Merritt Parkway.  This year, the market has attracted so many farmers that the whole length of the parking lot has been turned into a locavore’s heaven.

Among the treats you'll find are Kimberly Dulka’s maitake mushrooms.  These mushrooms are said to have medicinal properties and purported to ease all sorts of ailments, including cancer and diabetes.  Kimberly grows the mushrooms on her Red Clover Farm in Seymour.  She also sells her produce at the Cos Cob farmers' market on Tuesdays and Fridays.  “They are delicious chopped and sautéed with some garlic or shallots,” she says.
