Even Tough Guys Love Cupcakes

Who would've thought that the foul-mouthed boys who gained notoriety as Howard Stern sidekicks have a soft spot for cute little cupcakes? We're talking baked goods here, people, not cheerleaders. At Crumbs Bake Shops, which started on Manhattan's Upper West Side in 2003, there are dozens of varieties of the darling confections available at any given time. Two of note are the Artie Lange and the Baba Booey.

The former is vanilla cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting filling, topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting, dipped in chocolate fondant, and edged with chocolate and vanilla sprinkles. The latter starts with chocolate cake and is filled with peanut butter frosting, topped with peanut butter and chocolate cream cheese frosting, and rimmed with peanut butter chips. As sweet as they sound, the best part of these cupcakes is that every time one is purchased, a portion of the proceeds goes to charity: St. Jude's Research Hospital for the Artie Lange and LIFEBEAT for the Baba Booey.

In Fairfield County, depending on the size of your sweet tooth, you can indulge your cupcake craving with a "taste" (one-inch), a "classic" or a "signature" (at six ounces, it's double the bulk of an average cupcake) size. Or you can sample the other delightful flavors at Crumbs locations in Westport, New Canaan, and Stamford. Fudge chocolate chip, toasted coconut and caramel apple are a few examples. Sample packs are also available for purchase online, and Crumbs will ship them to your door.

Crumbs Bake Shop is the brainchild of Mia and Jason Bauer, whose menu is an irresistible blend of comfort-oriented classics and elegant baked goods. With more than 50 varieties baked fresh daily and a new cupcake of the week every Monday, each Crumbs Bake Shop is a haven of sweet delights. Now, you can have your cupcake and do some good, too.
