Even Fairfield County Foodies Get the Blues

The fourth annual barbecue-a-palooza that is the Blues, Views & BBQ festival is almost here. Sept. 23, 24 and 25, hungry fans of down home style barbecue will converge on Westport's Levitt Pavilion for the venue’s final, delicious hurrah of the season.

It’s hard to imagine so much authentic barbecue can exist on the east coast, but when this outdoor space is converted into one big, down-and-dirty barbecue pit, even Dorothy would feel like she was back in Kansas City.

What’s on the menu? For starters, the Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned “Cookin’ for a Cause.” This local backyard charity cook-off is for pros and amateurs alike, and features four categories: chicken, ribs, chef’s choice and dessert. The festival will offer winners prizes in every category, but if you plan to sample these chefs’ wares, you really can’t lose. The money raised by the contest will be donated to the Westport Woman’s Club Food Closet, an emergency food distribution program.

CTBites will host cooking demos with locally celebrated chefs like Matt Storch of Match restaurant and Chef Pietro Scotti of Da Pietro’s.

And if you still haven’t got your fill, you can enter the pie or rib eating contests.
