Eat Well to Live Healthfully

Eating was simpler when food was less complicated. Today's supermarkets brim with more than 17,000 new food products every year, all clamoring for buyers' attention. But the profusion of processed food choices comes at a cost to consumers, who often exchange convenient (or, fast), processed food for natural, fresh and nutritional products. Donna Pace wants to change that.

The mother of two teenaged boys, Donna is a nutritional therapist who lives and practices in Westport. She believes that eating fresh and "clean" food is among the healthiest things you can do for your body. "I grew up in a family with a history of farming and of eating food fresh from the garden," she said. "We ate what we grew. It's always been a part of my life." Her background of eating nutritious, fresh foods informs her therapeutic practice -- and her own lifestyle -- today.

Donna is a Certified Nutritional Therapist Practitioner who works with clients to improve their health by focusing on their nutritional needs. "There is no such thing as 'one diet fits all,'" she says. "Age, genetics, gender, the climate we live in and the even the way we shop, all lead to diverse lifestyles with diverse nutritional requirements." But it all begins with choosing nutritious foods, which are always the ones with the fewest ingredients, she adds.

Donna practices what she preaches. She's had a plot in one of Westport's community gardens for several years and grows much of the food she and her kids eat. "I can't wait to go to the garden, pull something out of the ground and bring it home and eat it that day. Imagine all the nutrients," she says.

Indeed Donna knows all the nutrients. And she can help you learn them as well. Donna can be reached at Donna@pacenutrition.com.
