Don't Look up: Convertibles Fall Victim to Economy

It seems when economic times are gloomy, drivers are less likely to crave the soft-top. According to autoblog, sales numbers for convertibles are down.

Back in 2006, when convertibles accounted for two percent of all new vehicles, it was hard for car dealers to keep them on the lot. But in 2010, total convertible sales fell more than 50 percent.

The one shining star of robust convertibles seems to be General Motors, whose Chevy Camaro convertible sales remain strong. In the first part of 2011, the cult classic car accounted for 12.4 percent of the "droptop" market.
