Don't Go Near the Water

Summer storms may take the heat out of a steamy day, but they can also produce hazardous road conditions. Here are some tips to remember when driving in inclement weather:

? Slow down. Rain and flooded roads make maneuvering tricky. Give yourself enough time to get to your destination without going too fast.

? Take the high road, literally. Avoid low-lying road areas. It's easy to misjudge the depth of standing or moving water and get stuck or swept away in currents.

? Never drive on a flooded road or bridge. If necessary, back up and find a different route.

? Pay close attention to your surroundings. Turn off the radio and concentrate on getting to your destination safely.
