Dining Empire to Conquer New Territory

The boys who brought us Cava in New Canaan and 55 Degrees in Fairfield are expanding their burgeoning restaurant empire to Darien. Scena, a 70-seat eatery with an additional 70-seat outdoor patio, launches in August at 1077 Post Road. The Italian menu echoes that of the Fairfield restaurant, with an emphasis on antipasto, pastas and other hearty fare. The ambience will be rustic with rough hewn wood ceilings and rich and inviting fabrics throughout.

The building blocks of this family dynasty-in-the-making began when Ecuadorian-born Vicente Siguenza and his family opened the Meditteranean-style Cava nearly seven years ago to rave reviews from critics and customers alike. Four years later, in partnership with his cousins Mario and Carlos Lopez, Siguenza moved into Fairfield with 55 Degrees. The chic, multi-level space, located just across the train station parking lot from Fairfield Theatre Company, was also an instant hit. Both restaurants, with their pretty outdoor terraces, warm and welcoming management, and well-executed menus, continue to thrive.

As the mix and match family ownership tree continues to branch out, Marco Siguenza, a much-loved restaurant professional who is best known for his ten-year tenure at Match in South Norwalk, will be the latest to partner with cousin Vicente with the introduction of Scena. "Our family always wanted to open our own restaurants, but I don't think any of us expected the level of success that each one has found. I'm very excited to play such a big part in this new addition," said Marco.

Scena joins the ranks of several new dining options on the horizon in a recently rather restaurant-starved Darien. The Black Goose is rumored to be re-opening shortly and the brand new Harper's (in the spot formerly occupied by Centro) is imminent as well.
