Comina Brings World to New Canaan

There is a wonderful store in New Canaan that has all sorts of must-have goodies. It’s called Comina and it bills itself as “The World Next Door.” The store is chock-full of upholstered furniture, accent tables and whimsical lamps. You'll find a lovely dining table made of Indian rosewood, and there's a fun bench with klismos-style legs and a fantastic woven red leather seat.

Comina’s offerings read like a journey around the world. Rugs from central Asia, glassware from Italy, platters from Africa, serving pieces from Central and South America as well as wooden bowls from a more local point of origin, Vermont.

Scattered among the furniture and home accessories are a variety of unusual gift items, toys and holiday decorations, many made in distant lands and each with its own story. “Most of our pieces are fair trade and hand made by craftsmen,” said Susan Melillo, manager of the New Canaan store, who was busy getting more ornaments up on a tree.

In addition to the many items on display in this delightful store, Comina also provides a bridal registry service and offers custom upholstery. Comina is located at 90 Main Street, near the Fire Station, in New Canaan.
