Chefs Battle, Raise Funds for Cancer Research

What happens when you match Chef Michael Marchetti of Stamford's Columbus Park Trattoria against Chef Stefano Staiano of Stamford's Aria restaurant? You get the second annual “Battle of the Chefs,” a gastro-fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society Regional Center C. Anthony & Jean Whittingham Family Building.

Aitoro’s appliance center and gourmet kitchen showroom in Norwalk will provide the backdrop for the culinary battle of the year on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Both chefs will be paired with a local sous chef who will work alongside to produce winning dishes. NBC Universal’s Vinnie Fusco will work with Chef Marchetti, while Lee Rizzuto, Jr. of Conair will heat things up with Chef Staiano. And cake decorating will be lead by Fairfield County’s own John Barricelli of SoNo Baking Company & Café. Paul Callari of Callari Auto Group will lend his artistry to Chef Barricelli’s confections.

As the teams get cooking, guests can nosh on a raw bar packed with clams and oysters, provided by Norm Bloom and Son of Norwalk. And A Dash of Salt’s Jonathan Mathais rounds out the evening with his signature attention to the tiniest catering details.

With talents like these on display, it’s advisable to come hungry and ready to be wowed.
