Call it Sleep

Getting a good night's sleep isn't always easy, but it's critical to your health. Chronic lack of sleep can lead to impaired mood, memory and concentration; compromised immune system and an increased risk of accidents. Counting sheep might help some people but for others, here are some basic tips for getting a solid night of sleep:

*  The Princess might have suffered a pea, but she was onto something: a comfortable enough bed is still key. Make sure your bed is large enough to stretch and turn, particularly if you share it with a sleeping mate.

*  Lights out -- all of them: Ambient light, such as that from computer screens or streetlights can make it difficult to fall and stay asleep.

*  Stay cool: Many people find a cool and well-ventilated room better to sleep in.

*  Avoid alcoholic beverages late in the evening. Alcohol's sedative qualities might help induce sleep, but they may increase wakefulness during the latter part of the sleep cycle.

*  Wind down before trying to fall asleep: Find a consistent and relaxing pre-sleep routine. It will help send a signal to your brain that it is time to wind down for the night.
