Builder Aims for Perfection

A lot of boys grow up being taught to use tools by their dads. Rich Rosano took what he learned and turned it into a business, R. Rosano Builders, LLC. He builds luxury homes for the discerning homeowner. And he has won numerous prestigious awards doing so.

“I love my business,” he said. “I love building a house and turning it into a home for my clients.” Rich is the type of builder who is involved in every step of the process. He sees himself as the coordinator, and the first step is putting together the team. “When I’m involved from the beginning then I can help the client control costs,” he explained. The team typically includes the homeowner, architect, interior designer, landscaper designer, engineer and Rich. It can often take six months to work through the design and planning stage, which can be a frustrating time for the homeowner who wants to see a house going up, but advance planning can save money by eliminating surprises.

His first career in the printing and software business was punctuated by the Sundays he spent visiting open houses. Then he had an epiphany and realized what he really wanted to do was build houses.

Rich’s first construction project was helping his dad double the size of the family home in New Jersey. With his wife Sharon Rosano, a real estate agent in New Canaan, Rich moved to Fairfield County and bought a house that he describes as a “tired 60 year-old cape,” which he turned it into a 7,500 square foot colonial. “I changed all the systems in the house – it was brand new,” he says. Rich put the house on the market and it sold immediately, so they bought another older home and Rich worked his magic again.

Apart from his talents as a construction coordinator, Rich likes to keep abreast of trends. He incorporates as many green design elements as he can in the houses he builds and renovates, including geothermal heating and cooling systems, certified lumber from sustainable forests and low-VOC paints, to try and ensure good indoor air quality. Rich also provides clients with another invaluable service – estate management. “I have access to all the trades,” he said, “so if someone needs repairs or service, they call me. I can have things taken care of quickly.”
