The facility, located at 123 Richards Ave., opened to residents in October and hosted its grand opening celebration on Thursday, Nov. 9. The community is a joint collaboration between EPOCH Senior Living, a provider of senior housing and care since 1997, and National Development, a real estate and investment firm with senior housing experience.
The community is designed exclusively for residents living with dementia. According to the Alzheimer's Association, approximately 5.3 million older Americans have Alzheimer's disease, while an additional 200,000 individuals younger than 65 are living with early-onset Alzheimer's.
Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in Connecticut and affects approximately 74,000 Connecticut seniors — a number that’s projected to grow to 91,000 by 2025.
Bridges by EPOCH at Norwalk is also a resource for the greater community and provides free educational presentations each month on topics related to dementia and caregiving.
