Bite Into Bliss at Westport's River House

Looking for a better burger? The River House Tavern in Westport has a Black Angus masterpiece, smothered in savory bleu cheese and served with a generous side of hand cut fries. Do I have your attention yet?

River House Tavern is off Westport’s beaten path, nestled along the banks of the Saugatuck River. It’s a picture perfect setting with a menu to match. Captained by Chef Raul Restrepo, formerly of New York City’s Cipriani, River House serves reliably delicious dishes in a cozy, beautiful setting.

Did I mention that the burgers are out of this world?

Another dynamite lunch item is the pulled pork sandwich, served with homemade spicy barbecue sauce. Chef Restrepo doesn’t overdo it on the spicy so the pulled pork is still the star, not the sauce. And the bread on all the lunch sandwiches is just the right amount of crispy, so it stands up to sauces and juices. Not surprisingly, it’s made in-house.

“We try to do most things in our own kitchen,” says Chef Restrepo. “We make our own pasta and bread, we grind our own meat. As a chef, the more you do, the more control you have over taste.”

River House does dinner, too, and elegantly. The dining room offers panoramic water views and quiet ambiance. They’ve even decked the halls and are currently taking reservations for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve prix fixe dinners, just in case you don’t feel like cooking.
