Bigger Breakfast Might Lead to Wider Waist

There is an old adage, "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper?" But it’s not necessarily accurate.

Dieters have long been advised to eat a large breakfast, as doing so ostensibly reduces one's food intake for the rest of the day. But a study suggests that large breakfasts might only lead to larger waistlines.

German researchers studied the food intake of 280 obese adults and 100 of normal weight. The subjects were told to keep detailed records of everything consumed over a two-week period. The study, published in Nutrition Journal, found that foods most responsible for variations in daily calories were among the breakfast favorites. They included bread, eggs, yogurt, cheese, meats, jam and butter.

Results from both groups showed that a large breakfast only added to the number of daily calories they consumed, which might mean that a smaller breakfast equals fewer daily calories consumed, not more.

The pancakes were good while they lasted. But that grapefruit might have your name on it.
