Big Time Barbecue Chain Gets Fired up Locally

If you’ve never heard of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, it’s probably because you live in Connecticut. Dickey’s is a Texas-based barbecue fast food chain that has been family run since its inception in 1941. Dickey’s began franchising in the mid-90’s, and has become the largest barbecue fast food chain in the country. Now the Texas chain is making a home in Bridgeport.

The new franchise, which opened Nov. 20, is owned by Alan Cohen. “I was born and raised in Texas,” Cohen said in a press release. “So good barbecue has always been a part of my life. I wanted to bring that to my new home in the Northeast.”

Dickey’s menu is made up of its signature tangy barbecue sauce, “homestyle sides” such as coleslaw, barbecue beans and potato salad, and plenty of smoked meats. All meats are slow-smoked in house daily, according to the website. Cohen told the CTPost that Dickey’s ribs are “fall-off-the-bone” tender.

If you have yet to sink your teeth into the finger licking deliciousness at Dickey’s you’ll have your chance Sunday, Dec. 8 when the Bridgeport location will host a grand opening party. And rumor has it that barbecue patriarch Mr. Dickey himself will be there.

Probably time to bust out your cowboy boots and eat some authentic Texas barbecue.

Yee-haw!

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is located at 4577 Main St. in the Brookside Shopping Center in Bridgeport.
