Is your car fit? Here are some tips to help keep it running smoothly:
Always accelerate slowly at the beginning of a drive: Engines are susceptible to greater strain within the first 10-20 minutes of operating.
Reduce strain on the engine and automatic transmission by shifting into neutral at lights (or when idling). An automatic transmission works to "push" a vehicle, even when it's stopped.
When turning the steering wheel, avoid holding it in the extreme right or left positions for more time than is necessary to maneuver the vehicle. Doing so can damage the power-steering pump.
Consolidate short trips, as more pollutants are released from the vehicle during the first few minutes of driving. Taking fewer small trips not only reduces carbon emissions, but also keeps engines running smoothly.
