STAMFORD, Conn. Remember when I told you Port Chesters Brazilian-inspired BarTaco would be making a home in Stamford? Well, tacophiles, the wait is almost over. Word came last week that BarTaco will open its urban oasis Sept. 12.
BarTaco was conceived during a jog on the beach in (you guessed it) Brazil by restaurateur Sasa Mahr-Batuz of Barcelona Restaurant fame. The concept was simple: good food, great drinks and an aura of fun. As Sasa puts it, his vision included an airy, informal space that was big on style, a place you might expect to find on a sandy beach.
We knew we had the formula right when customers were sipping margaritas and sitting on our patio overlooking an icy bay in the middle of January, Sasa said of his original Port Chester, N.Y., BarTaco location, which he opened in December 2010 with business partner Andy Pforzheimer. The two are also behind the wildly successful Barcelona Restaurant group.
BarTacos second location in the heart of Stamfords restaurant district replaces a water view with an urban vibe. The décor evokes the same resort feel as the Port Chester location, and the food promises to be as delicious as the original. The menu riffs off of Mexican street food, focusing on fast, affordable and mouthwatering fare. From Baja fish to spicy chorizo, you can fill your tacos with just about anything or you can expand your sampling to include any of BarTacos salads, gorditas, tamales or more.
BarTaco Stamford will offer take out, but if you eat in, you can also choose from more than 25 tequilas or enjoy homemade margaritas, mojitos and caipirinhas.
Don't let BarTaco be the one that got away. Mark your calendars for a Sept. 12 trip to Stamfords newest eatery. BarTaco is located at 222 Summer St.
Will you try BarTaco? What do you think of Stamford's growing restaurant scene?
