The Stamford scene is hot this summer, and the recently opened Bar Rosso, the latest establishment from the team who created Napa & Co., headed by expert restaurateur, Mary Schaeffer, is one of the spots where things are heating up the most. The Spring St. location is convenient to just about everything, and is a delightfully walkable distance from the Avon Theater. In fact, on a recent, post-movie trip to Bar Rosso, I was glad I had made a reservation because the place was packed and it was 9:30 at night.
The striking bar and two-story dining room were so lively, we actually opted for an outdoor table on the mellower front patio. We started with a bottle of fresh, summery Gavi from Bar Rossos extensive wine list and considered our menu options. After examining the creative pizzas and pastas on this Nouveau Italian menu, we settled on a broccoli and spicy sausage pizza and a tagliatelle with veal ragu.
In many respects, it was an authentically European dining experience. Seated outside in the warm evening air, we werent troubled by the fact that our dinner order took some time to arrive, the wait certainly attributable to the sheer volume of diners present that evening.
The meal was serviceable, but the scene at Bar Rosso definitely upstages the cuisine. If youre looking for an energetic and spirited atmosphere to share drinks and maybe some finger foods with friends, Bar Rosso definitely delivers. If you're looking for a more intimate experience to linger over truly excellent dishes, stick with Bar Rosso's more sophisticated sister, Napa & Co. Between the two, you're sure to find exactly what you're looking for.
