If youre a respectable Connecticut foodie, youve certainly enjoyed a meal or three from Boxcar Cantina. (How great is their guacamole?) Well now, Boxcar wants you to get cooking. The folks behind Boxcar are on the hunt for your best bean recipe.
Boxcar Cantina has created a Bean of the Week program to encourage diners to embrace the bean. And the folks in the kitchen are hosting what they describe is a good, old fashioned cooking contest. Perhaps you have a killer bean dip that everyone raves about, they say, or a bean soup, maybe a salsa -- if the bean is the star of your dish, Boxcar Cantina wants to try it.
Better beans translate to big time bragging rights to Boxcars Best Bean Recipe. Your winning recipe could also have you digging on a $75 gift certificate to Boxcar, not to mention a feature in Boxcars specials menu. OK, the winner will also get gifted with a basket from Westport Farmers Market vendors.
Interested? Click on over to to Boxcar Cantina's Facebook Wall and post the name of your bean recipe, or just write "I have the best bean recipe!" Judging takes place Thursday, July 28 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Westport Farmers Market, where contestants should bring enough of their prepared bean dish to provide a small sample to a panel of five judges.
Before you get cooking, be advised: The recipe must include at least one local Connecticut grown ingredient.
But more local is always more.
