The rumors have been swirling for months. Arts Delicatessen is making a comeback, people have whispered. Arts Deli will reopen, bloggers have blogged.
Well, its all true.
Arts Delicatessen, the authentic Italian deli beloved by Westporters, closed its doors in 1990 after the passing of owner Arthur Falcone.
After two decades, son Richard and grandsons Richard Jr. and Chris will carry on the tradition of delicious deli sandwiches and outrageous pastas. And after much anticipation, the word is that Arts will reopen Friday, Jan. 6, or Saturday, Jan. 7, at exactly the same location it occupied years ago, 13 Post Road W. near Riverside Avenue.
On the menu, which has already been finalized, are tempting throwbacks to Arts first incarnation. Arts Combo grinder, a gastro mash-up of ham, salami, cappicola, mortadella, pepperoni, provolone, prosciutto, lettuce, tomato, olive oil and vinegar will be a sure-fire hit. Its tough to imagine eating better in Fairfield County for less than $7. (The Combo grinder clocks in at $6.50.) Pastas of every persuasion are also on the menu, from ravioli to ziti.
Falcone says the deli will be open seven days a week. That's good news for hungry Westporters.
