A Talk on Social Skills at Library

Stephanie Madrigal, author of the popular "Superflex" superhero curriculum, will be giving a talk Wednesday, August 25, from 7-9 p.m. in the Brubeck Room of the Wilton Library.

Ms. Madrigal proposes that before one can develop social skills, there must be social thinking, which integrates information from home, work and community settings. Successful social thinkers consider perspectives, points of view, emotions, thoughts, beliefs, prior knowledge and intentions of others. This is an intuitive process for most of us, as we develop our communication skills and observe and acquire information and learn how to respond to people and situations around us. However, those with AD/HD, autism spectrum disorders, non-verbal learning disabilities and other social and communication challenges struggle with this process.

Ms. Madrigal creates and develops therapeutic and educational products related to training students from age five to adulthood with social learning disabilities and social-cognitive deficits.
