Winterfair Works Holiday Magic

As December arrives again to wrap us in its sparkle, we'll be re-dazzled by delicate, sumptious and often, over-the-top decorations. Each year, it seems holiday fever covers more territory. Once it was only the traditional holiday lights, wreaths and trees. Nowadays, walk the supermarket aisles in December and you'll find holiday editions of everything from paper towels to dog biscuits.

But you'll never find must-have, one-of-a-kind holiday decorative items at the supermarket. They're at Winterfair, an annual marketplace that signals the start of the season. From ornaments to Santas, clothing and accessories for the entire family, it's all here and in a holiday mood. Bring your long gift list for friends and relatives and you'll find untoppable presents. While you're at it, pick up some objects that'll add zip to your holiday housewarming party. Winterfair also has home décor and stationery, gourmet food and recycled sailcloth items, all in one place. Seventy-five vendors display their wares and all you have to do is wander through this wonderland of holiday shopping happiness.

While you browse, family members can stay busy with face painting, book signings, silhouete portraits, cooking demonstrations and performances. The best news is that proceeds from Winterfair, presented by the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, benefit community programs such as the Diaper Co-Op, a diaper bank established in 2008 for low income families.

The 32nd annual Winterfair Holiday Gift Market takes place Friday and Saturday, November 12 and 13, at the Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa. Hours are Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 and $5 and free for children under 12. For more information, visit the Junior League's website.
