Where to Catch the July 4th Sizzle

Hungry for July 4 fireworks and flagwaving? In Fairfield County, there are enough helpings of fireworks to satisfy the heartiest appetites. Here's where to get your fill of celebrations:

Fairfield - Fireworks can be seen from Jennings and Penfield Beaches on July 4. Without a beach sticker, parking is $25 or free after 6 p.m. Atwood Express Oldies band plays at Jennings beginning at 5 p.m. and The Shamrogues perform at Penfield from 7 to 9 p.m. The food concession stand is open. Greenwich - At dusk, July 3, there are fireworks at Binney Park & Greenwich Point. At Greenwich Point, admission is $5 per person or $20 per car. Binney Park fireworks viewing is free. For more information, visit the Parks & Rec website.

New Canaan - Waveny Park is the spot to view fireworks on July 4. The park opens at 5 p.m. A Family 4th permit for the event is $30 for residents and $60 for non-residents. Permits are available online for residents and at Town Hall and the Recreation Dept. The evening includes inflatables for kids, a magician, soda and ice cream and a performance by the town band. Norwalk - On July 3, festivities start at 5:30 p.m. at Calf Pasture Beach, with the Amazin' Andy performing for kids, followed at 6:30 p.m. by The Bossy Frog Band. At Shady Beach, dancing begins at 6 p.m. to music spun by DJ Nuzzo. The Bill Genuario band plays at 8 p.m. and resumes after the fireworks, which begin at dark. The rain date is July 5. Rowayton - Bayley Beach is the viewing spot for Rowayton's fireworks display on July 4, beginning at 9:15 p.m. Cars with beach stickers are admitted and a "nominal charge" will be collected from cars without them. Weston- A Family 4th celebration, on July 4, begins with an 11 a.m. free swim at Bisceglie-Scribner Park. At 4:30 p.m., Weston Middle School gates open (enter on School Road and Route 57) for a barbecue from 5-9 p.m., music starting at 5 p.m., a magic show at 6:15 p.m. and the fireworks display at 9:20 p.m., followed by more music (til 11 p.m.)  Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children. Westport - July 4th festivities happen on July 2 at Compo Beach. Tickets are $30 per car, available at the Parks & Rec office and Police Headquarters. On July 2, Compo Beach will close at 4 p.m. and re-open at 5 p.m. for fireworks' ticket holders. The show begins at approximately 9:15 p.m. The rain date is July 6. Wilton - The town's July 4th festivities, adjacent to Cider Mill School, include: at 8:30 a.m., the Freedom Run Road Race (5K), at 2:30 p.m., the Republicans vs. Democrats Softball Game, at 5:30 p.m., a performance by the band Shadow Act, at 8 p.m., the band  Rum Runners takes over. At 9:30 p.m., approximately, fireworks are set off adjacent to Cider Mill School and at 10 p.m., Rum Runners continues playing its music. Parking is $20 with special location parking available through Parks & Rec. The rain date is July 5. For more information, visit Wilton's website.
