Tom Kretsch Shoots for Calm

Tom Kretsch's photographs of Cape Cod, Nantucket and local coastal areas are on display at Photographic Solutions starting April 23. The exhibit, “In Places of Blue and Gold...A Time to Dream” features photographs Tom took of quiet coastal places in fall, with soft light and rich, warm colors.

Photography has been Tom's passion for some time but for thirty-six years, he taught physical education in the Norwalk Public Schools. While at Columbus Magnet School, in addition to his teaching duties, Tom produced yearly slide shows to convey the joy of learning and living in the school's unique environment. In his photography, Tom began cultivating his style of shooting images of peaceful and soothing places. He travelled to coastal and inland sanctuaries. Based on this, Tom developed Peaceful Places, his business which provides his photographs for juried shows throughout New England. His work has also been exhibited locally at The SoNo Arts Festival and The Westport Fine Arts Show.

This past year, Tom had a one man show at the Westport Public Library entitled, “A River Runs Through Us- A Town’s Treasure-The Saugatuck.” In addition to private sales, Tom’s work has been purchased by companies including RBC Dain Rauscher, Saint Vincent’s Hospital, Wake See Dimes Law Office, Norwalk Parks and Recreation Department and Morgan Stanley. Last year he won Best in Show at the Wilton Arts Council and the Richter Arts Center in Danbury.

His show at Photographic Solutions runs through May. An opening reception takes place on April 23, from 5:30-8 p.m. For information, call 203-847-8886. Photographic Solutions Gallery is located at 250 Post Road, Norwalk.
