The Doobie Brothers Still Believe

The songs that season our lives? Some of the most memorable came from The Doobie Brothers. Through the late 70s and 80s, their distinctive sound, long melody lines and sophisticated musicianship powered hits such as "Listen to the Music," "It Keeps you Runnin," "What a Fool Believes" and "Long Train Runnin'."

Though their musical line-up has gone through periodic changes, the band has stayed true to its mission of making complex and evocative music. A new album, "World Gone Crazy," released in July, propels this forward. Founding band member Tom Johnston writes on their website about how it gelled. “This album has been in the mix for five years, but we didn’t seriously start putting the nuts and bolts together until three years ago.”  Patrick Simmons, also an original member, adds, “We had been compiling songs with the idea we would eventually do a record. Our old producer, Ted Templeman, came by tour rehearsals one day and was impressed with how we were sounding. He asked if we were doing any new material or thinking about recording. And that’s where it really started.”

Hear what they've come up with in "World Gone Crazy," as well as songs that will detonate powerful memories, when the Doobie Brothers perform at Klein Auditorium on November 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $60-$112. For more information, visit the Klein's website.
