The Beach Boys Still Radiate Summer

Just run through the titles: "Good Vibrations," "Kokomo," "Surfin' USA," "In My Room," "Wouldn't It Be Nice," "Little Surfer." Yes, The Beach Boys. Since 1961, The Beach Boys have been singing sunny songs about surfing, California, cars and love in one blockbuster hit after another. But it wasn't always fair weather among band members. By the 1980s, the band's principal songwriters (and cousins) Brian Wilson and Mike Love tangled over song ownership, royalties and use of the group's name. Lawsuits followed, with most of the original members going their separate ways.

With those resolved in 2005, there are now different Beach Boys groups performing. One of them, featuring founding Beach Boy Mike Love (lead vocals) and Beach Boy-vet Bruce Johnston (vocals/keyboards) performs in Stamford's Columbus Park on Thursday, August 5, for the final concert in Stamford Downtown's Live at Five series. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, Mike Love and Brian Wilson might put aside any residual contentiousness to perform a 50th anniversary concert in 2011. Let's hope this rumor has legs. Until then, catch Love and his band for their version of endless summer. Tickets are $10 and admission at the Main Street entrance of Columbus Park begins at 6:30 p.m.  For more details, visit the concert's information page
